The ItWhip app is now live on the App Store. It brings everything ItWhip does on the web — Choé AI booking, host fleets, live trips, payments, agreements — into a native iOS experience built for how people actually rent cars: on a phone, often in a hurry, frequently from an airport gate or a hotel lobby.

This is the biggest ItWhip release of 2026, and it changes how you book a car in Arizona. Here's what's inside it, why it's faster than the web for most trips, and how to get it. (An Android version is on the roadmap and will arrive later this year.)

Why ItWhip Built a Native App

The web experience at itwhip.com works. It's fast, it's responsive, and it covers every feature the platform offers. But three things kept showing up in renter feedback that no mobile website can fully solve:

  • Map-first browsing. Renters wanted to see cars on a map and pan around the way they would in any modern travel app — not scroll a list.
  • Real-time trip status. Once a booking is confirmed, renters want a single place to see pickup ETA, mileage during the trip, and the return countdown — without refreshing a browser tab.
  • Voice booking. Talking to Choé while walking through an airport is faster than typing into a chat box.

The native app delivers all three. Web stays as the discovery and SEO surface; the app is where the trip actually happens.

Choé, In Your Pocket

Choé is ItWhip's AI booking assistant. On the web, Choé lives at itwhip.com/choe and walks renters through location, dates, vehicle, identity verification, and payment in a single conversation. The app brings the same assistant into a native chat surface — with one major upgrade.

Voice Mode

Tap the microphone and Choé listens. Say "I need an SUV in Scottsdale this Friday through Monday for two adults" and Choé responds out loud, surfaces matching cars as cards in the chat, and lets you tap to book. The state machine that drives the booking flow on the web — collecting location, then dates, then vehicle, then identity, then payment — is identical in voice mode. You're not talking to a different system. You're talking to the same Choé.

Native Stripe Identity

When Choé needs to verify your driver's license, the app launches Stripe Identity natively rather than redirecting through a browser tab. Camera permission is requested once. Selfie capture, document upload, and the verified callback all happen inside the app. Most renters complete identity verification in under three minutes.

Picks Up Where You Left Off

Started a Choé conversation on the web at lunch, then opened the app on the train? The chat history follows you. Booking state, attached vehicle cards, identity verification status — all shared across devices. There's no "starting over" tax for switching from desktop to phone mid-funnel.

The Map Explorer

This is the feature most renters notice first, and it's the one that most fundamentally separates the app from the web. Open the Explore tab and you see a pan-and-zoom map of every available car in Arizona, color-coded by type, priced live, and bookable in two taps.

How It Works

  • Pinch to zoom into a city. Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tucson, Flagstaff, Sedona — every market we serve appears as you zoom in.
  • Drop a pin near your destination. Hotel, airport gate, rental house, event venue. Cars within delivery range of that pin float to the top.
  • Filter by date window. The map only shows cars actually available for the days you're traveling. No more clicking into a listing only to discover it's already booked.
  • Tap a car to book. One screen for photos, rate, host badge, distance from your pin, and an instant-book button if the host has it enabled.

Why Map Discovery Matters

When you're traveling for an event — Spring Training, Barrett-Jackson, the Phoenix Open, F1 weekend — you don't want to read a list of every Mustang in Arizona. You want to see what's actually near the venue, available on those exact dates, and bookable now. The Map Explorer answers that question in under five seconds. Lists can't.

Live Trip Tracking

Once a booking is confirmed, the app's Trip tab becomes mission control for the rental. Three features run live during every trip.

Pickup ETA + Host Status

Before pickup, the Trip tab shows your host's name, photo, response status, and a countdown to your pickup window. If the host is delivering to an airport or hotel, the screen shows their progress and an estimated arrival time. No more wondering "did they leave yet?" — the answer is on the screen.

In-Trip Mileage

Once you've picked up the car, the app records your check-in odometer reading and tracks miles used against your daily allowance. If you're approaching your mileage cap, the app warns you before you hit overage charges. This is part of Mileage Forensics™, the same dispute-protection system hosts rely on — but mirrored for renters so there are no surprises at return.

Return Countdown

The app shows hours and minutes remaining on your rental, the agreed return location on a map, and a "Return Now" action that ends the trip cleanly. Late returns generate alerts before they become charges, giving you a chance to extend the trip in-app instead of paying a late fee.

Native Checkout & Payments

Booking on the app uses Apple Pay by default. Saved cards live in your iOS wallet, not in a web cookie. Stripe handles the payment, identity verification, and any post-trip adjustments — the same Stripe integration the web uses, surfaced through native sheets.

Faster Checkout

Most renters complete a booking in under 90 seconds in the app. The web flow is the same speed once you're typing fast on a desktop, but the app removes the keyboard step entirely. Touch ID or Face ID confirms the charge. You're in.

Receipts & Trip History

Every charge — base rate, taxes, fees, deposits, refunds — appears in the Payments tab with a downloadable receipt. Business renters can email itemized receipts directly from the app for expense reports.

Documents, Agreements & Account

The app keeps every document tied to a rental in one place: the signed rental agreement, your driver's license verification status, insurance selection, claim records (if any), and host messages. Tap an active booking and every artifact for that trip is one swipe away.

Sign Once, Stored Forever

The rental agreement is signed natively in the app — no browser tab, no PDF download. Your signature is stored alongside the agreement and viewable from any device. If you ever need to dispute a charge, the same agreement Choé generated at booking is right there, byte-for-byte.

Built Native for iOS

The app is built with native iOS components, not a web wrapper. Agreements render through PDFKit. Push notifications come through Apple's APNs. Voice mode uses on-device speech recognition where available, with the same backend Choé endpoints as the web. The result feels like a real iOS app because it is one.

Coming for Android later this year. The Android build is in development; the same backend already serves the web and iOS, so feature parity at launch is the goal. Sign up for the Android waitlist on your account page to be notified when it ships.

How to Get It

The app is free. It works for anyone — you don't need an existing ItWhip account to install it.

  • iPhone or iPad: Download on the App Store (iOS 16 or newer)
  • Android: Build in progress. Add yourself to the waitlist from your ItWhip account and we'll notify you when it ships.

Sign in with the phone number you use to book. If you already have a web account, your bookings, saved payment methods, and Choé chat history sync the moment you sign in. New renters can sign up phone-first in under 30 seconds.

Hosts: The App Works for You Too

The same app handles hosting. Switch into Host Mode from the account tab and you'll see your fleet, today's check-ins, pending requests, payouts, and your host inbox — exactly the way they appear at itwhip.com/host/dashboard. Approve a booking, message a renter, or update a vehicle's availability while you're at the gym, in line for coffee, or anywhere else a phone makes sense.

Push Notifications That Matter

Hosts get instant push for new requests, instant-book confirmations, payout deposits, and renter messages. Notifications are batched intelligently so you don't get pinged for every minor event — only the ones that need an action from you.

What's Next

This is version 1.0. The roadmap for the rest of 2026 includes:

  • Apple Wallet pass for active rentals — your car keys, agreement, and pickup details in the wallet alongside boarding passes.
  • Live trip sharing — share your trip status with a friend or coworker so they know when you've picked up the car and when you're returning.
  • Offline mode for in-trip mileage and agreement access in dead zones (looking at you, Sedona canyon roads).
  • CarPlay integration for navigation to your pickup location and return location.
  • Android build — full feature parity, ships later this year.

Most of these are already in development.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the app free?

Yes. Downloading and using the app is free. You only pay when you book a rental, and the rates and fees are identical to itwhip.com.

Do I need to re-create my account?

No. Sign in with the phone number tied to your web account and everything syncs — bookings, payment methods, identity verification status, Choé chat history.

Can I book on the app without verifying my identity?

You can browse and chat with Choé without verification. Identity verification (driver's license + selfie via Stripe Identity) is required before completing any rental booking — same as the web.

Does the app work outside Arizona?

The app works anywhere, but ItWhip's host network is Arizona-first. If you're searching outside Arizona, you'll see a friendly empty-state explaining the markets we currently serve. Expansion plans for 2026 are in the works.

What if I don't want push notifications?

Granular notification controls are in the Settings tab. Turn off categories you don't care about (marketing, host tips, app updates) while keeping the ones you do (booking confirmations, host messages, return reminders).

How do I delete my account?

Account → Settings → Privacy → Delete Account. Same flow as the web. We process deletions within 30 days, in line with App Store privacy requirements.

The Bottom Line

The ItWhip app is the fastest way to find, book, and complete a rental in Arizona. The Map Explorer turns car shopping from list-scrolling into instant visual filtering. Choé in voice mode lets you book hands-free. Live trip tracking removes every "did this happen yet?" question from the rental experience.

If you've been booking on the web, the app will save you minutes per rental and hours per year. If you're new to ItWhip, the app is the easiest place to start.
